St. Maarten/St Martin, "The Friendly Island." France and the Netherlands have shared this haven of sand, sea and sun for more than three centuries. There is a distinctly different feel to each side of the island. St. Maarten/ St. Martin is a safe island.
No need to stay put, rent a car and explore the island. Go to Phillipsburg, walk along Front Street and Old Street, and enjoy the duty fee shopper paradise and drinks on the boardwalk overlooking the Caribbean Sea. St. Martin has become the culinary capital of the Caribbean with more than 300 restaurants and excellent selection of fine wines from all over the world. Maho Village has the Casino Royale, the largest casino on the island. The butterfly farm is a must see. The island has golf, tennis, horseback riding, biking, hiking, snorkeling, scuba diving, boating, sailing, fishing, and bowling. Go to neighboring island, British Anguilla to swim with the dolphins or to French St. Barths, jet set island for the rich and famous. St. Maartin/ St. Martin is most certainly a place to visit and perhaps the place to fulfill your dream of escaping to paradise.
